KEDMOR's data collection, skill, methodology and knowledge accumulated in road transportation technology, monitoring and safety is over a decade long.

Bridges are designed and built to meet specific load criteria. Despite safety margins in design, an overloaded transport cargo or vehicle may endanger the public and adversely affect the sustainability of the structure and its life expectancy. However, the need to transport special cargo which exceeds the design criteria arises from time to time. Such journeys are sometimes made with special vehicles and always pose a challenge to bridge engineers, entailing design experience, field experience (especially in bridge inspection) and a good understanding of heavy vehicles and the operation at hand.

KEDMOR has engaged in heavy load transportation since 2002.
Our data collection, skill, methodology and knowledge accumulated in the road transportation technology, monitoring and safety is over a decade long. We are a main bridge super heavy load certifying firm for the national government highways agency. We specialise in estimating the residual load capacity by analysing systems, for bridges and structures.

KEDMOR also provide our customers Route Survey new service which we have specialised in since 2008. The information given by KEDMOR engineers in this service is only general information regarding to the road and mainly structures and accurate only at the time that the photos were taken during the Route Survey. The ability of the bridges and structures to carry super heavy transportation loads, without causing any damage, shall be checked by a bridge engineer at the end of process.

The work process includes:

  • Initial survey of the transport origin and destination and the vehicle characteristics.

  • Recommendation of a preferred route, to minimise potential damage to bridges or in case of required bypasses.

  • Preliminary field inspection of all road structures for load capacity.

  • Reverse engineering of bridges for which archive design information is not available.

  • Analysis of bridges and road structures, using advanced tools and simulations, to ascertain the load capacity limits.

  • Design and temporary strengthening if necessary to have marginal load capacity.

  • Setting an exact path and speed for the vehicle, detailed to the level of wheel and axis placement along the bridge, to ensure controlled loading of specific bridge elements.

  • Documentation and calculation for each and every structure along the path and filing of the recommended process and route with the customer and the authorising transportation authority.

  • Inspection of the temporary strengthening, if needed, of the mentioned structures prior to the cargo transport.

  • Escort of the vehicle during the transfer, if required,  to ensure proper implementation of our instructions and provide real time solutions in case unexpected problems arise.

  • Conducting a damage assessment survey after the transport arrived safely, on all structures along the route.

  • Production and filing of a final report with the Transportation Authority as required.
